Shakopee Derby Days Committee Announces 2011 Entertainment Line-up

The Shakopee Derby Days Committee is excited to unveil its entertainment line-up taking place Wednesday, Aug. 3 through Saturday, Aug. 6 at the Huber Park Amphitheatre during Shakopee Derby Days 2011.

Kicking off the entertainment line-up, a movie in the park will be shown on the big screen at dusk on Wednesday night, following the third annual Community Picnic. Check the Shakopee Derby Days Web site in the coming weeks for announcement of the movie title.

Thursday night's entertainment features bluegrass music, bluegrass gospel, and country by the Loosely Wound Bluegrass Band at 5:45 p.m. Loosely Wound is sponsored by the Shakopee Heritage Society. A free Teen DJ/Dance will be held at 7 p.m. Music for the Teen Dance is provided by TK Sound and is sponsored by Shakopee Parks and Recreation.

Garage rock band Machine 22 kicks off the entertainment on Friday at 6 p.m., followed by rock/blues band The Beloved Kings at 7:30 p.m. In the Fields takes the stage at 9 p.m. to perform modern and classic rock, country, and more hits.

Metropolitan Dance Alliance’s performance at 1 p.m. begins the entertainment for Saturday. The sounds of country/pop band Redpath will fill the stage at 6:15 p.m. Casablanca Orchestra (CBO), a 10-piece show band, takes the stage at 8:30 p.m., producing a musical performance that celebrates all musical styles and genres from the 1960s through today. During the show by CBO, fireworks will illuminate the skyline at dusk. Sponsors for the fireworks currently include Shakopee Cub Foods.

The Shakopee Derby Days festival is Shakopee's annual community festival, spanning five days the first full weekend of August. Shakopee Derby Days is organized and run by Shakopee Derby Days, Inc., an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

The festival relies on community donations and support to be successful and to be able to continue to provide free and low-cost entertainment and events. Contributions from the community to Shakopee Derby Days are welcomed and appreciated. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit, contributions are tax-deductible.
